This is a 7 day auction for a 25/32″ Contemporary Hand-Made Marble in Mint Condition. It consists of an orange lobed solid core with black horizontal swirling on the surface. Sort of Bengal Tiger in appearance. Displays very nicely from all angles. It is signed PW-05 on the bottom pole. Patrick Welch, a contemporary glass marble artist from Blue Mound, Illinois, made this marble in 2005. I have included, as an integral part of this description, supersized pictures of all sides of the marble so you can see clearly what you would be bidding on. Regular surface shipping to the Continental United States, with up to a maximum of $100.00 in insurance coverage, for loss only, and without tracking, will cost US$5.44.  Premium Marblespresents ”Mystical Apparition” This marble is an RPC original #746

“Mystical Apparition” is a semi-clear marble with a lens fumed with very light coats of both 24-carat gold and .999 silver.  In light coats, the combination of the fuming produces all of the visible colors of the spectrum.  The bottom half of this marble is a deep cobalt blue with dots of orange and white.  Note the differences using a black background versus using a white background.

Annealing:

All of my marbles are annealed.  Annealing is the process of ‘baking’ the marble at 1065 degrees F. for about 30 minutes, then slowly reducing the temperature. This process relieves the stress inside of the marble produced from the heat of the flame.  Marbles that have been annealed are stronger, chip resistant, and very rarely crack.

Please note: 

No molds are used when I make marbles.  Because of this, each marble is truly a work of art!  Hand-spun marbles at times have a slightly irregular shape.  Rather than a defect, it is a sign that the marble was truly hand-spun without the use of molds or wooden/graphite rounders.  Over time this method of making a marble will command much higher prices.  Many handmade marbles also have a pontil mark.  This is a mark left by the glass rod that was melted onto the marble so I could hold it in the flame and spin it to get the round shape.  This rod is called a pontil.  A pontil mark also assures the collector of a handspun marble.  I have included many pictures so you can examine the marble from all angles.   Payment

 I hope you will be satisfied with your marble.  If you are not happy with your purchase for any reason, simply return the marble, undamaged, and postage paid within 7 days of receipt.  I will happily refund your money or do whatever it takes to satisfy your concerns. About the ArtistI have been a glass artist for over 25 years working with stained glass, fused glass, and flameworking.  I work in a small studio in Northeastern PA called Bloomingdale Glass Artisans.All of my marbles are made with the highest quality Pyrex glass.  All colors are made with high quality Pyrex colored rods.  Fuming is a common method used to add color to marbles.   .999 silver or 24-carat gold is often used to add color and depth to a piece.   In very light coats, silver produces whites, greens, and blues.  Gold produces reds and yellows.  The combination of the two precious metals produces interesting patterns of infinite colors.
