AKRO AGATE - Authentic Marble Glass cullet from the CLARKSBURG, WV plant site.

Blue oxblood cullet.  

This is dark blue transparent base glass with surface oxblood. (Calling it “blue” is like calling the ocean blue. Not descriptive enough.This is excellent glass.)   

Blue oxblood is in the top three most rare Akro cullet types. 

We found two additional cullets of similar size in the nearly 2,000 pounds we were able to closely document. That’s it! 

It measures apprx 1.25 long X .75 inches tall.  

Tremendous value at this opening bid amount.

This was collected at the plant site in Clarksburg WV many years ago while it was still legal to do so.

It has been in a private collection since.

Corkscrew Marble

WOW! Although these are both “dug” marbles from the Akro factory, they are none the less hard colors to find. The 11/16″ one is in better shape than the 1″ marble. Good luck bidding!

AKRO AGATE - Authentic Marble Glass cullet from the CLARKSBURG, WV plant site.

This lot consists of an Akro Agate Persian Turquoise blue cullet with a nice ribbon of condensed oxblood all the way around it.

This shade of blue originated with MF Christensen and is likely THE most well known and beautiful early opaque marble colors….(Although MFC never put oxblood on one.)  

The oxblood here is condensed and sits above flush from the base surface. My camera is not good enough to capture it but when you get this in hand you will see black mixed with the oxblood. 

It’s perfectly normal for oxblood to present this way on cullet.By the time the marble is finished the oxblood has spread to a micro thin layer.

It measures about 2 inches long and an inch wide. It has three sides to it.

It’s unique. This is only one we found in nearly 2,000 pounds.

Collectors Notes:

It took only trace amounts of oxblood to put a spiral on a corkscrew marble so 100% oxblood is generally found in small amounts/sizes when it’s found at all. The purpose of this lot (besides the obvious fun of owning it) is to provide an opportunity to see oxblood in a variety of settings. 

It’s fun to own rare historic glass like this but it also serves a purpose. If you are new to marble collecting and have not yet seen real Akro oxblood this is just the type of thing you want to be familiar with. 

You don’t need to see very much oxblood to know what it looks like but you DO need to see it!

It’s fun for us to share this hobby with you so we are not in a huge hurry for you to pay….But evidently Ebay is. You can take a week to pay us while you are bidding on other lots so we can ship them all together but you will have to tolerate Ebay sending daily “payment reminders”. Nothing we can do about that, sorry.

Corkscrew Marble

This is a very interesting marble,at (approx) 1inch it has some of the characteristics of several marble companies It has some great color,turquois, yellow green, and an off white encased in a clear glass, My first thoughts on this are Vitro agate, Some Folks think Master Made , and a few lean toward Akro Agate,it is in very good condition with only a few scattered pin pricks, it still retains a very nice glossy looking surface,I will let the new owner call it what they like, at this point I will call it Odd and Rare! a very different example for your collection .Email with any ? I try to describe it as best as I can and I’m trying to take better pictures to make up for my lack of knowledge, so please bid based on what you see, thank you. I’m selling my dad’s marble collection, most are marbles from the Akro Company’s location in Clarksburg, WV where we are from. I have done some research on them but I’m far from an expert. I will describe and show them to the best of my (and my camera’s) ability. I am only using my eyes, no microscopes or jeweler’s loupes, so I cannot see internal damage. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me, I will respond within 18 hours at most, usually sooner. This auction is for 50 marbles measuring, none measure under half an inch or over an inch. You get the exact marbles pictured, the conditions range from good to very good, some are excellent. I’ve divided the lot into 5 groups of ten for the additional photos so you can get a better idea of the patterns and colors.

This gorgeous specimen is a little bigger than 5/8″ and is MINT 9.7+ This is a keeper for sure !! NO RESERVE !!

The marble on the right measures approx 21/32" and has some faint scratches and pinpoint as made marks.
